Malcolm Lucas
Malcolm Millar Lucas was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Central District of California and a justice on the California Supreme Court.
Lucas was nominated to the federal bench by President Richard Nixon on July 8, 1971, to a new seat created by 84 Stat. 294. He was confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 1971, and received commission that same day. He served the Central District of California until his resignation on April 6, 1984. Lucas was succeeded in this position by William Rea.
In 1984, Lucas was appointed to the California Supreme Court by Republican Governor George Deukmejian. In 1987, Gov. Deukmejian elevated Justice Lucas to chief justice. Lucas retired from the court in 1996.[1] He was succeeded by Justice Ronald George.
Malcolm Lucas died on September 28, 2016.[1]
