My name is Malena Chastain, I am a mother of 4 and a military spouse. I was a small business owner and have always given back to my community.
  • Fiscal Responsibility and Government Transparency - I will not support any new tax bills and will take a bi-partisan approach to evaluate our budget.
  • Funding for Education - I will work to ensure fair aide is reaching all towns in the 37th Middlesex District to help ease the burden of high property taxes on constituents.
  • Bridging the gap in communication - I will return the voice of the people to our district with fair representation, a bi-partisan approach and transparancy.
I am passionate about Education, Veterans Services, Seniors Programs, Animal Rights, Healthcare, Budget Policies, Supporting Small Business Owners, and Agriculture.
On a personal level, I've always looked up to my grandmother Grace Tamborello. She was a woman of honor and integrity who had conviction, strength, and a love for family and family values. On a historical basis, Abagail Adams is a woman I've always admired for her strength, activism, and ability to achieve greatness in a time where woman's voices were not often heard. I look up to Martin Luther King Jr for his voice of peace and unity while bringing positive influence to our society during the civil rights movement.
I believe all elected officials should be humble, dedicated, and act with integrity and transparency. They should possess the ability to listen to their constituents and act on their behalf rather than special interest groups or pressure from other elected officials.
My legacy will be that I loved my family and that I was the best wife, mother, and grandmother I could be. I would also like to work toward bringing civility not only to the political arena but to the areas and towns I reach. I would like to have the legacy of community service, giving to those that need while enriching our community.
I remember watching the television at 11 and being very interested in President Ronald Reagan's first meeting with Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
My first job was as a hostess at Village Inn. I worked there for about a year.
My favorite book has always been The 5 People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. It truly touched my soul when I read it in high school. It teaches the nature of life and how being the best person you can not only benefit others but that life is circular.
Fiscal Responsibility the biggest challenge Massachusetts is facing. Our state is currently 80 billion dollars in debt with unsecured pensions and pension healthcare. The cost of living in Massachusetts is driving residents to move out of state. Taxpayers need relief and the ability to keep more of their hard-earned money.
It's always beneficial to build relationships with other legislators. Working in a bi-partisan manner always benefits the constituents. The ability to work with other legislators with cross-town/cross-district collaboration will build stronger communities and unity. It allows you to address issues affecting multiple areas, brings different perspectives and the ability to hear and assess the needs of the people in a much broader scope.
I would like to be a part of the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs, the Joint Committee on Children, Families, and Persons with Disabilities, or the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture.
