A measure designed to allow the operation of recreational marijuana businesses and to tax such businesses was on the ballot for Malibu voters in Los Angeles County, California, on November 6, 2018. It was approved.

A yes vote was a vote in favor of authorizing the sale of recreational marijuana in the city and imposing a general tax at the rate of 2.5 percent of gross receipts on the sale of recreational marijuana.
A no vote was a vote against authorizing the sale of recreational marijuana in the city and imposing a general tax at the rate of 2.5 percent of gross receipts on the sale of recreational marijuana.

Ballot question

The ballot question was as follows:[1]

Shall the ordinance be adopted to (1) allow and regulate cannabis (marijuana) businesses; (2) permit existing medical marijuana dispensaries to sell and deliver recreational (adult use) cannabis; and (3) impose a new general tax of 2.5% of gross receipts from sales of non-medical cannabis, the revenues from which may be used for general city purposes, until repealed by voters, which tax is estimated to raise approximately $75,000-$150,000 annually?[2]
