Biography
Mamie "Dee" Melvin was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She served in the United States Air Force from 1975 to 2007. Melvin earned a bachelor's degree from Bellevue University in 1986. Her career experience includes working in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.[1]

- Now, more than ever, states must take proactive action to protect the environment.
- We must insist that every Floridian is treated equally under the law with equal opportunity and justice for all.
The Florida unemployment system failed. Many were unable to access the system; many waited months for benefits. The new legislature must fix the failed system and find revenue to replace the billions of dollars lost.
We must stop taking public dollars from public education and allocating them to private and for profit charter schools. We must fully fund public education
The pandemic highlighted huge disparities in healthcare. Nearly 3 million Floridians had no health care before the pandemic. Many more lost their health care when they lost their jobs. Florida must leave the Federal suit to eliminate the Affordable Care Act. We must expand Medicaid to insure at least 800,000 more Floridians. I will support action to ensure affordable healthcare is available to all Floridians
I also served in the USAF Air Force for 32 years - 15 years on active duty and 17 years in the USAF Reserve.
Global warming: Global warming impacts all Floridians across the environmental spectrum. We must take global warming seriously and take steps to slow the emissions of greenhouse gasses by mandating the use of renewable energy and ending deforestation by slowing over development.
