Thomas participated in the following survey conducted by Local Color. The survey questions appear bolded, and Thomas' responses follow below.

Why are you running?

I have always preached that the world would be a better place if everyone found a cause they are passionate about and supported it. Education and my children's school has always been my passion. I actively volunteered in my children's school when they were younger. I have taken the past couple of years off as I focused on my business, and I have been feeling disconnected and guilty for not practicing what I preach. Timing of the opportunity to run for school board was perfect.[5]
—Mandy Thomas (2017)[6]

What do you bring to the table?

I have lived, worked and volunteered in this community for 12-plus years and have built many positive relationships. As a parent and business owner in the district, I am not only committed to the success of our schools but have a variety of skills that will add value to the board and community. I grew up in my family’s restaurant and, as a result, I have an amazing work ethic and am a 'people' person. I am passionate, openminded, hard-working, honest and always look to add a little fun and humor to everything I do.

Entrepreneurs by their very nature are problem-solvers. We needed new software, I learned how to program. We needed a new website, I learned how to design websites. My resourcefulness and 'grit' will be of great benefit to the board.[5]

—Mandy Thomas (2017)[6]

Summarize the key issues you perceive (how you will address them):

Crowding and funding are the two hot buttons for our district. I think there is a lot of misinformation and mistrust in our community that has caused us to be unsuccessful with recent campaigns. I want to serve on the board so I can help educate our community to help them better understand the needs of our district and to start rebuilding trust. I also think there are opportunities to work with our local and state officials to improve funding for education. Cities should not be allowed to continue building and developing without considering the impact that growth has on our schools.[5]
—Mandy Thomas (2017)[6]

Why should people vote for you?

I’m passionate. I love our school district and our community and think we have some amazing things going on. I want others to look at us and think 'I want to be like them!' I’m not a polished politician and I probably don’t always say the right thing, but I’m real.[5]
