I'm a mom, a Domestic Relations Attorney, and an advocate for children and families.
  • The Domestic Relations Court needs to be more accessible to all regardless of your socio-economic status. Domestic Relations court does not guarantee a right to an attorney, so if you are unable to afford one, you are at a distinct disadvantage in the courtroom. Money and ability to afford counsel should not be the deciding factor on whether you get more or less time with your child.
  • The court needs to be more reflective of the community that it serves, in not only the judicial staff, but the overall court staff, as well.
  • Experience and Qualifications matter, when selecting people to serve in Judicial roles. It is important for people on the bench to understand what the litigants are going through.
When people find themselves entangled in the legal system, it is likely one of the hardest things that they are ever going to go through. Going through a divorce is by far even more traumatic, by virtue of the fact that it touches on every aspect of your life, from your employment, to your retirement, to your home, to whether you will see your kids at next Thanksgiving, to the bed that you are used to sleeping in- no part of your life remains untouched. I believe that we need to try to make this process and experience less contentious. We should be trying to help people, especially those with children to restructure their family in a more positive way.
My Paternal Grandmother was a tremendous influence throughout my life. She was an advocate for women’s rights in India and strongly believed in the power of education.
The core responsibilities of the person elected to this position is respect the law, respect the people appearing before the court and lead with empathy.
