Four of the seven seats on the Coachella Valley Unified School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. In his bid for re-election to Trustee Area 1, incumbent Manuel Jarvis-Martinez faced challengers Yolanda Castro, David Perezchica, and Roel (Rollie) Sanchez, and Castro was elected to the seat. Trustee Area 2 incumbent Joe Sanchez Murillo Jr. did not file to run for re-election, leaving the seat open for a newcomer. Candidate Jesus Gonzalez ran unopposed and won that seat by default. Trustee Area 3 incumbent Lowell Kamper ran against challengers Frank Becerra and Darlene Berber-Felton and was defeated by Becerra. The Trustee Area 4 race featured incumbent Maria Machuca and challenger Adrian Rodriguez. Machuca won re-election to the board.[1][2]
