April 30, 2011

Rhode Island: On Friday, April 22, the Rhode Island Supreme Court issued a decision allowing two manufacturing companies to appeal power purchase agreement between Deepwater Wind LLC and the state's primary electrical utility, National Grid. The agreement is the latest step taken towards constructing an offshore wind farm. According to arguments by the manufacturers, Toray Plastics Inc. and Polytop Corp., the agreement could result in power costs rising and would, therefore, hurt their business. The wind farm was also opposed by an environmental group that claimed its construction could delay comprehensive climate change legislation. The group, however, was denied standing by the high court.[1]
