March 20, 2018 ballot measures in Illinois

A marijuana legalization advisory measure was on the ballot for Cook County, Illinois voters on March 20, 2018. The question was designed to determine the level of support in Cook County—including the city of Chicago—for statewide legalization of marijuana. Voters in Chicago also decided advisory questions concerning (1) preserving provisions of the Affordable Care Act, (2) banning bump stocks for guns and increased penalties for illegal gun sales, and (3) addressing increased opioid and heroin use. All four advisory questions were approved by between 68 percent and 92 percent of voters.

Voters in certain precincts of Chicago also voted on an advisory question concerning repealing the statewide ban on rent control.

A yes vote was a vote in favor of advising the state to establish a strategy to address increased opioid and heroin use and deaths due to use. It specifically advised in favor of allocating funds for addiction treatment, requiring insurance providers to cover opioid alternatives, and limiting prescription length
A no vote was a vote against advising the state to establish a strategy to address increased opioid and heroin use and deaths due to use.
