What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Drug diversion programs my office continues to champion is an area where I have seen first-hand the positive impact on the lives of individuals who were written off prior to my tenure as District Attorney. Far too often the criminal justice cycle is an infinite loop, but programs like these can actually help the addicted population recuperate, keeping them out of prisons, jails and making a lasting difference in their lives and in turn on the community as a whole. In turn, the recidivism rate will decrease, which will lower the taxpayers' burden on the trying and retrying people for similar non-violent drug offenses.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

A Member of Congress must embody the characteristics of their constituents. The people from my district are passionate, honest, respectful, hardworking and moral. Having been born and raised in Northern New Mexico, I am grateful that my family and my community have taught me how to live by these values and I bring them with me in every endeavor I take in my life.

What is your favorite book? Why?

Elie Wiesel is an amazing writer that was capable of encapsulating over a decade of atrocities. Night, his own tale of a survivor during the Holocaust, is compelling and illustrates the absolute worst humanity has to offer. I have read it front to back more times than I can count, and we must never allow any nation's moral fiber to dissolve to such a capacity for violence.

If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

Marco has a strong interest in joining the House Judiciary Committee, Energy and Commerce Committee, Agriculture Committee, Small Business Committee, and the Foreign Relations Committee.
