I was born and raised on the peninsula by Immigrant working class parents. I attended public schools and worked my way through college at Harvard University. After graduation I then began my public service as an aide for Congresswoman Anna Eshoo. My husband and I worked hard to be able to afford a home in Mountain View where I was able to set down roots and raise my two wonderful daughters and take care of my parents in their twilight years.

I have served on the Mountain View City Council since 2007 and have been Mayor twice in 2009 and 2020. As Mayor I led the city out of a budget deficit during the Great Recession, and we have had surpluses ever since. During the Pandemic, I made sure families and businesses made it through lock-down by providing as much direct assistance as possible including over $6 million in rental assistance and creating an economic resiliency plan that gave grants and forgivable loans to small businesses to make sure they could survive the crises.

Over my sixteen years on the City Council, I have championed fiscal responsibility, economic development, public safety and emergency preparedness, housing opportunities of all types, transportation options, and sustainability. Through good times and bad times, I have committed myself to making sure our community thrive and I am proud of the accomplishments we have achieved.

I have also served on numerous regional boards and commissions as I understand that our biggest challenges cross city boundaries.
  • Safe Neighborhoods:

Sadly, crime is on the rise in the Bay Area with the increase in smash and grabs, retail theft and other property crimes. Everyone deserves to feel safe and secure in their own neighborhood. That is why I am proud to be public safety’s choice and have the sole endorsements of Santa Clara County Sheriff Bob Jonsen, District Attorney Jeff Rosen, deputy sheriffs, local police officers and firefighters.

As someone who has reduced crime before, by creating more productive outlets and pathways for young people, increased staffing in the Mountain View Police Department and ensured best available training, equipment, and resources to protect our community, I welcome the work of making our County a safer place for everyone.
  • Small Business Advocacy: During the pandemic I worked hard to assist our businesses by initiating a micro loan and grant program. I worked with our Chamber of Commerce to help businesses with marketing and championed the outdoor dining program for our downtown restaurants. As Supervisor I’ll introduce initiatives to help businesses still recovering from the pandemic and those struggling with today's uncertain economy. As someone who owned a small business, I know what today's small business owners need to succeed and continue to be our economic engine for the community.
  • Strong Fiscal Leadership through tough times: Financial responsibility is critical to ensuring excellent public services. I have steered Mountain View through the Great Recession and the recent soaring inflation. Through both crises, I maintained a balanced budget and Mountain View’s excellent AAA bond rating. With my work on regional boards, I’ve helped secure important federal, state and regional dollars for our City to be able to move capital programs and service programs forward. I will bring this fiscal excellence, discipline, and revenue generation strategies to the Board of Supervisors.
Public Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Affordable Housing, Health Care, Transportation, Climate Change, and Economic Development.
My role model is Congresswoman Anna Eshoo. I have known her for 35 years, having met her as a high school student. I interned for her at the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in my college years, and I had the opportunity to work for her after graduating from college. I look up to her for her highest level of integrity, ethics, hard work, intelligence, compassion, and love for this nation.
I am a hard and diligent worker. I study and learn the issues, I reach out and listen to all sides, think things through, work well with others, and am action oriented. I understand good policy and know how to bring people together, solve problems and get things done.
Providing sound fiscal oversight, providing top-notch public safety, healthcare, and safety net services to the most vulnerable populations in our community.
As the mother of two Gen Z daughters, who are concerned about climate change threatening their chance for a bright future, I would like to address and reverse the impacts of climate change to mitigate its effects and ensure a world where the next generation can thrive.
My first job was working for the local Ice-Skating Rink as a sixteen-year-old high school student, making minimum wage. I worked at the Skating Rink for two years.
As the child of immigrant parents, I became their translator when I learned English as a young child. I saw through my parents’ eyes their struggles with discrimination and injustices because of their limited English proficiency, and it taught me the importance of having a voice in the community. This experience left a mark on me and has been the impetus in my lifelong work to ensure that everyone, regardless of background, has a voice in our community.
A list of my endorsements can be found at www.mak4supervisor.com/endorsements
Having led through the Great Recession, I have scrutinized budgets and have called for transparency and community engagement in determining priorities. I served on the Santa Clara County Local Area Formation Commission (LAFCO) where I oversaw audits of special districts and special services such as fire and healthcare. Therefore, I firmly believe that financial transparency and government accountability are paramount to good governance.
