Margaret E. “Meg” Curran
Margaret E. "Meg" Curran is the former chairperson of the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission. She was appointed by Gov. Lincoln Chafee (D) in 2013 and served until her term expired in February 2019.[1]
Curran replaced Elia Germani, whose term expired March 1, 2013.[2][3]
Biography
Curran was editor-in-chief of the law review at University of Connecticut School of Law during her time as a student there. She served as the first woman U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island and was involved in the Plunder Dome investigations, which lead to the prosecution of several members of Providence City Hall. Following her tenure as a U.S. Attorney, Curran worked as a federal monitor for four years.[4] From 2006 to 2008, she worked as a consultant ethics monitor at Roger Williams Medical Center following corruption charges against the hospital.[3] At the time of her appointment, Curran was the chairwoman of the Rhode Island Health Benefits Exchange board of directors.[4][3]

Political career
Public Utilities Commission (2013-2019)
Curran was nominated to chair the commission by Governor Lincoln Chafee on May 29, 2013. Curran would replace Elia Germani as chair of the commission, as Germani's term expired March 1, 2013, and he was not reappointed.[2][3] Curran served until the end of her term in 2019.
United States Attorney (1998-2003)
Curran was appointed to United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island by President Bill Clinton in 1998. She was kept in this position under President George W. Bush.[5]
