Margaret Metcalfe is the national committeewoman of the Republican Party of Guam. She ran for Congress in 2014 and again in 2016. She and her husband own a gift shop and have had careers developing real estate.[1]

Metcalfe was an RNC delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from Guam. All nine of Guam's delegates in 2016 were unpledged.

Career

Metcalfe won the Miss Guam Universe Pageant in 1967 before earning a bachelor's degree in accounting and economics from the University of San Francisco. After college, she worked for Guam Cable TV as an office manager. Later, she and her husband purchased Ave Maria Community Book Center, Inc., a bookstore in Cupertino, Calif. In addition to the book shop, they "built homes and developed land and commercial properties."[1]

In 1997, Metcalfe and her husband opened a Catholic gift shop on Guam.[1]

Politics

Metcalfe was elected to a four-year term as the Republican Party of Guam's national committeewoman to the Republican National Committee in March 2016.[2]

Incumbent Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D) defeated Felix Camacho (R) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Bordallo defeated Anthony Babauta in the Democratic primary, while Camacho defeated Margaret Metcalfe to win the Republican nomination. The primary elections took place on August 27, 2016.[3][4]

Metcalfe ran in the 2014 election for the U.S. House, representing Guam. She was defeated by Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D) in the general election.

2016

Metcalfe confirmed that she would be running for Congress again in April 2016.[5]

Metcalfe was an RNC delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from Guam.

Delegate rules

At-large delegates from Guam were elected at a territorial convention on March 12, 2016. All Guam delegates were unpledged, meaning they were not bound by local party regulations to vote for any specific candidate at the Republican National Convention.

At the Guam Republican territorial convention, six delegates were elected to the national convention. At the time of their election, five of the delegates had not publicly announced which candidate they intended to support, while one delegate—Guam Governor Eddie Calvo—announced his intentions to support Ted Cruz.[6]
