Candidate Connection

Margarita Ruiz Johnson participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on February 26, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Margarita Ruiz Johnson's responses follow below.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Work with Republicans of good will to move US agenda forward.

2) Work on the immigration challenge and protect our DACA children
3) Work on Health care for all citizens of the United States as a right.[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Home land security, Veterans care and benefits, senior care, quality education for our children. These areas have been a challenge for Congress for the last 10 years and the needle is not moving on a compromise to benefit the United States nor its citizensCite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Margarita Ruiz Johnson answered the following:

Profiles in Courage from John F. Kennedy, The Audacity of Hope by President Obama, Mother Teresa: The Joy of Living, President Eisenhower on the Military Industrial Complex.[4]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
To represent its citizens with honor, decorum, dignity and respect.[4]
What legacy would you like to leave?
To serve my country, again for the second time, in our times of social and economic challenges to move our society and country towards a more perfect union.[4]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
The death and killing of President John K. Kennedy.[4]
What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?
It is the House of the People and by the People of the United States.[4]
What are your thoughts on term limits?
4 years max.[4]

Johnson provided the following description of her political philosophy to Ballotpedia:

I would like to work on Health Care for All, Jobs of the future, Elder Care and benefits, veterans benefits and care after war, homeland security and our children education system, to make it better. I am running because there is a need for qualified women to serve in Congress to represent family values and needs. I believe I can be helpful.[1][4]
—Margarita Ruiz Johnson, 2018

She added:

I am a moderate Democrat willing to work very hard with Republicans of "good will" to help our communities with their needs and dreams and help our country become a nation, where dreams can come true for all of our citizens, protecting our safety net and providing opportunities for movement in the socio-economic ladder. It can be done, if we work together for the good of the people. I will never take your vote for granted and I will serve with decorum, dignity and respect.[1][4]
