Campaign themes

2014

Morisseau's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

A small business toolkit

  • Excerpt: "The existing online portal doesn’t include any information on local business regulations and—more often than not—sends potential business owners on a hunt through several state agencies from the Dept. of Health, to the Dept. of Business Regulation, to the Dept. of Environmental Management."
  • Excerpt: "To alleviate this situation, I am proposing the establishment of a comprehensive statewide, locally relevant Small Business Toolkit. The Toolkit would made available—at any and all libraries in Rhode Island—all of the necessary state and local forms to start a small business."

A Scituate Reservoir stewardship program

  • Excerpt: "To that end, I am proposing a Reservoir Stewardship Program. In the program, residents who live in the watershed would pay a fee for the ability to use the land surrounding the reservoir for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and even hunting and trapping when certain animal populations spiral out of control. The fee would be used to enact educational workshops for Reservoir Stewards, led by scientists, and environmental experts and regulatory professionals."

Government accountability and transparency

  • Excerpt: "Bills with majority support deserve to make it out of committee for an up or down vote on the floor"
  • Excerpt: "Bills that are introduced before the legislative deadline deserve an up or down vote in committee in that session"
  • Excerpt: "Bills that are drastically altered by passage of floor amendments should be sent back to committee"
  • Excerpt: "The Rhode Island Senate should be subject the same ethics regulations as every other elected official in the state. "
