Ballotpedia survey responses
Castellano stated the following about her political philosophy in a biographical submission to Ballotpedia:[2]
“ | My professional background prepares me for the position of CA State Senator. As an international producer for National Geographic Television, and others, I witnessed glaciers melting, Amazon rainforest destruction, and El Niño’s devastating effects. I see similar alarming trends here.
My priorities include: 1) stellar, affordable public education, so the USA will remain competitive; 2) clean, renewable energy; 3) affordable, single-payer healthcare; 4) modernized mass transit; 5) strong consumer rights; and 6) creation of jobs that pay middle class wages. Moreover, I will be a persistent voice against offshore oil drilling and will advocate for the removal of nuclear waste stored at San Onofre. I will bring proven leadership skills, accountability, transparency, and innovation to government. I strongly support public forums and open dialogue so that people can directly communicate with elected officials. Moreover, I believe all individuals should be treated with equality and respect. For me, public service is the highest calling. I will spend every day working tirelessly for my district. I will represent you regardless of your party or affiliation.[3] |
