In her current position as Assistant Director, Margo assists with the overall operations of the Hope College Center for Diversity and Inclusion, to promote student engagement; retention, sense of belonging, and success. From time to time, she will help create and cultivate cultural celebrations and competencies. You may see her out in the community involved in leadership development and experiential learning opportunities. Margo serves on the Campus Life Board, the Chair of the Staff Advisory Board and the Many Voices Project.

When not at Hope College, Margo enjoys spending time with her family and cats. It is a big group, as she and her husband have five children between them who are all adults living and learning all over the US. In her spare time, she is getting her hands dirty in the garden, putting together a puzzle or doing a home improvement project. She also enjoys the theater.

Professional Experience Margo was a receptionist at St. Francis Catholic Church in Holland from 2009 to 2013. Prior to that, she worked as the general manager for Holland Civic Theatre, in accounts receivable and as a stay-at-home mom (her favorite job!).

  • Diverse Representation: Holland Township is a diverse community and I am committed to building a township where everyone feels like they belong. I will initiate a bilingual listening tour for township trustees and administrators to meet, listen, and understand our community’s needs.
  • Accessibility: Holland Township’s infrastructure must be updated to reflect our rapid growth. Significant attention must be given to the usability of our sidewalks and bus stops. Some bus stops do not have sidewalks around them, forcing riders to stand in grass or snow. I will focus on ensuring that our public spaces and rental units are designed for everyone, initiating studies to ensure that Holland Township is accessible for everyone.
  • Good Governance and Transparency: The Holland Township trustees must be ethical in their decisions. This process takes time, patience, and deliberation. When decisions are made, they will be made in plain view with input from residents, seeking the best interests of the community. We must follow established rules and recognize the spirit of the law, while keeping the decision making process open and transparent to the community.
I am personally interested in making local government more accessible to their constituents. I want to see more residents active in their local government.
My first job was as a candy striper at the hospital my mother worked in Chicago. I volunteered at get people, paperwork and specimens from one area of the hospital to the other. I spend two summers doing this and loved every moment of it. Helping people has always been a passion of mine.
I do not believe it is necessary to have previous experience in order to hold public office. I do believe that someone who is elected will put the work into to office to learn before, during and after being elected. This is why I have attended many Holland Township Board of Trustee meetings since I have decided to run for this office,
