Marguerite Salazar served as the Colorado Commissioner of Insurance from 2013 to 2017. She was appointed by Governor John Hickenlooper on July 22, 2013, and assumed office on August 19 of that year. Salazar replaced former commissioner Jim Riesberg, who resigned after two years in the position. On July 24, 2017, she assumed the role of executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.[1][2][3]

Salazar served as Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Region VIII, under President Barack Obama.[4]

She earned bachelor's degrees in psychology, sociology, and gerontology, as well as a master's degree in counseling psychology, from Adams State College.[4]

Political career

Executive Director of Department of Regulatory Agencies (2017-present)

On July 12, 2017, Governor John Hickenlooper (R) appointed Salazar to serve as the executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. She assumed office on July 24, 2017.[5]

Colorado Commissioner of Insurance (2013-2017)

Salazar began serving as commissioner of insurance on August 19, 2013, following the resignation of 2011 appointee Jim Riesberg from the office.[2] She was appointed by Governor John Hickenlooper on July 22, 2013. She resigned in 2017 after being appointed executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.
