Maria Antonia "Toni" Berrios (b. April 24, 1977) is a former Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing District 39 from 2003 to 2015.

Biography

Berrios' earned a Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University in 2006 and her Master's in Business Administration and International Business from Keiser University. Her professional experience includes working as a tobacco compliance specialist.[1]

Elections for the Illinois House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on March 18, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was December 2, 2013. Will Guzzardi defeated incumbent Maria Antonia Berrios in the Democratic primary and was unchallenged in the general election. James K. Muscarello (D) was removed from the ballot on January 7, 2014.[3][4][5]

Berrios won re-election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 39. Berrios defeated Will Guzzardi in the March 20 Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[6][7][8]

The March 20 primary was separated by less than 150 votes. Guzzardi initially demanded a recount and challenged the results. However, on May 1, 2012, he conceded defeated.[9]

On November 4, 2008, Democrat Maria Antonia Berrios won re-election to the Illinois House of Representatives District 39 receiving 19,659 votes, ahead of Jeremy Karpen (Green) who received 5,176 votes.[11]

The Illinois Opportunity Project, "an independent research and public policy enterprise that promotes legislative solutions in advance of free markets and free minds," annually releases its Legislative Vote Card, grading all members in both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly on the basis of their support of "pro-growth economic policies that increase personal freedom and reign in expansive government."[13][14]

Berrios received a score of 50.00 out of 100 in 2012 for a grade of D- according to the IOP’s grading scale. Her score was tied for the 55th highest among all 120 members of the Illinois House of Representatives included in the Vote Card.[14]
