Maria L. Oxholm was a judge of the 3rd Circuit Court (Family Division) in Michigan. She was appointed to this position by Gov. Engler in March of 2002.[1][2] She was elected to the court in 2002, and re-elected in 2006 and 2012. [3][4] Oxholm retired from the court in 2016.[5]

Career

Oxholm worked as an attorney for the Immigration Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. She then worked as an assistant Wayne County prosecutor for 10 years before becoming a judge. In March of 1999, she joined the bench of the 36th District Court. She served there until she was appointed to the circuit court in March of 2002.[1][6]

2012 election

Oxholm was one of 17 candidates competing for 16 seats on the 3rd Circuit Court. Only one candidate was a non-incumbent. Oxholm was re-elected with 6.2% of the vote.[7] [8]

Bar association ratings

Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association

The DMBA rated candidates running for judicial office in 2012. Candidates were given one of five ratings: Outstanding, Well Qualified, Qualified, Not Qualified or No Rating.

Oxholm was rated as Outstanding.[9]

Wolverine Bar Association

Oxholm received a rating of Extremely Well Qualified from the Wolverine Bar Association.[10]
