Maria Russo was born in Shady Grove, Maryland. She graduated from Jefferson High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Brown University in 2018. Her career experience includes working as a policy advisor.[1]

Maria intends to improve local infrastructure by prioritizing safer roads, expanding access to affordable and efficient public transportation, ensuring high-speed internet availability, and maintaining affordable utility rates for water and electricity. With better infrastructure planning, investment, and maintenance, Maria believes that we can provide for the people who call Jefferson County home and create a strong, sustainable future for the region.
- Public Education. With her previous experience as a Jefferson County Schools teacher, Maria knows how critical it is for public school teachers and service personnel to have the resources and support they need to to effectively educate and nurture the next generation. Maria will advocate for improving pay for all public employees so they can achieve a better quality of life and continue to provide essential services to the community with dedication and excellence.
- Clean Air and Water. Maria currently works as a clean water advocate in the state of West Virginia, ensuring that we are supporting water quantity and quality across the state. In 2023, Maria worked in Charleston during the West Virginia Legislative Session to support the passage of the PFAS Protection Act, ensuring that we provide resources to contaminated water systems and communities in the Eastern Panhandle and statewide. Maria is passionate about ensuring that all people in her district can fulfill their basic needs and have the tools they need to thrive.
As a proud West Virginian, I’m committed to strengthening our infrastructure, supporting education, ensuring clean air and water, addressing public health needs, aiding those affected by the opioid crisis, advocating for farmers, supporting our workers and families, and boosting our local economy.
