Maria del Carmen Arroyo is a former Democratic member of the New York City Council in the state of New York, representing District 17, from 2005 to 2015.[1] Arroyo resigned from the council effective December 31, 2015.[2]

After much consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided to resign from the City Council effective December 31, 2015. It has been a privilege to serve the people who live and work in the 17th Council District, the people of the Bronx, and of the great City of New York. It is an experience I will always cherish and I am proud to say we’ve made the Bronx a better place.[3]
