Maria del Pilar Rivas
Maria Rivas was a 2013 Republican candidate for District 35 of the New Jersey General Assembly.[1]
Biography
Rivas' earned degree's in Nursing and Obstetrics. Her professional experience includes owning Pilar Bridal Center for 25 years, working as an independent real estate agent, as CEO & Director of Children Without Children Charities, as President of the Taylor and Designer Association of New Jersey in 1984, as CEO & Director of Casa Peru Inc and as founder of the Peruvian American Action Committee of New Jersey (PAPAC) in 2002.[2]

Rivas' biography on the website of the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]
- Stabilize and defend social service for the poor.
- Increase scholarship and make college education more affordable for all.
- Promote small business growth.
- Crack down on fraud and abuse in NJ.
- Lower Taxes for all families.
- Promote pro-life initiatives.
Elections
2013
Rivas ran in the 2013 election for New Jersey General Assembly District 35. Rivas was bracketed with Rhina Tavarez. She was unopposed in the June 4 Republican primary. She was defeated by incumbent Shavonda E. Sumter (D) and incumbent Benjie E. Wimberly (D) in the general election, which took place on November 5, 2013.[4][5][6][7]
