Marian W. Payson is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. She has served in this position since April 14, 2003.[1]
Education
Judge Payson received her undergraduate degree from Duke University and her law degree from the Northwestern University School of Law.[1]
Professional career
After law school, Marian Payson began her career as a law clerk for U.S. Appellate Judge Wilbur Pell, Jr. of the Seventh Circuit Court. She then joined the New York City law firm Debevoise & Plimpton, where she worked for five years before becoming an assistant U.S. attorney. In 1996, she joined the Public Interest Law Office of Rochester. Prior to her judicial appointment in 2003, she was the president of the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys.[1]

Payson was appointed to the United States District Court for the Western District of New York to be a federal magistrate judge on April 14, 2003. She was reappointed in 2011 to an eight-year term that expired on April 13, 2019.[1]
