Mariana Pfaelzer was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She joined the court in 1978 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Pfaelzer served on senior status from 1997 until she passed away on June 1, 2015.[1][2]

Education

Born in Los Angeles, California, Pfaelzer graduated from the University of California-Santa Barbara with her bachelor's degree in 1949 and received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law in 1957.[2]

Professional career

Pfaelzer was a private practice attorney in the State of California from 1957 to 1978.[2]

Judicial career

Central District of California

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Alan Cranston, Pfaelzer was nominated to the United States District Court for the Central District of California by President Jimmy Carter on August 8, 1978, to a seat vacated by Francis Whelan. Pfaelzer was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 22, 1978, on a voice vote and received commission on September 23, 1978.[2] Pfaelzer passed away on June 1, 2015.[1]
