Ensuring high quality education for all San Franciscans, from pre-school through college. I've spent 22 years on boards and volunteering for a range of educational institutions. I've got a broad perspective on what works what doesn't, how to make education relevant, how to bring lower-income and first generation students into the fold in a way that ensures they will have the tools to succeed.
Ruth Bader Ginsberg. She's brilliant, hard-working, incredibly accomplished, values family tremendously and values people and friendships above ideology. She understands that you can disagree with someone's views but still maintain a friendship. I see that lacking in modern society and hope that we can return to that kind of civic engagement.
Honesty. Integrity. Compassion. Willingness to do what is right instead of what is easy.
I would always like to leave the world better than how I found it. This is an everyday thought that applies to big and small endeavors, not just loftier goals behind running for office. If I see an elderly person struggling with groceries I carry them, if I see trash on the ground I pick it up, if I encounter someone who needs food I bring them a meal or connect them with services. I volunteer a great deal for many very important causes, including education, but also ranging from rescuing and helping human trafficking survivors to arts and culture. I try to live my life as an agent for good in the world.
My parents made us work for everything, so I had chores around the house since I could hold a sponge or a broom. As we grew the jobs became a lot less attractive - cleaning the garage, etc... and so, while I still had chores, in order to earn money, I found my first job at a bakery and cafe. I loved it. I greatly enjoyed having my own income - it gave me such a sense of my own abilities. I also loved being in an environment where I was able to connect with so many different people and learn their stories. I worked there all through high school.
Who Moved my Cheese - its a classic, simple and has a fantastic message - I shared it with my daughter when she was three - great point that you shouldn't waste time lamenting, but keep moving forward, even if you feel you were wronged - at some point it doesn't matter and you lose more by worrying about what isn't than choosing to forge on.
Hermoine Granger - she was constantly learning.
In this particular instance, the primary job of a CCSF Trustee will be to save CCSF from takeover or closure. It has been severely mismanaged and will be a ton of work to fix, but I'm up to the task. We must first make every change required by the audit, then we need to methodically assess the points of failure, the the system down to the studs and rebuild so that CCSF is viable and stronger going forward.

Part of this process will also involve the selection of a new permanent Chancellor. The revolving door of Chancellors in recent years has been a drag on CCSF. It is impossible to move forward with vision without leadership.
This is extremely important to me, as co-founder of a mental health technology company, and luckily I have experience with this from my time on the Georgetown Board of Regents. There we implemented a variety of programs aimed at addressing the mental health and well-being of students. Some of these involved professional counselors, peer counselors, as well as group discussions with a randomly grouped students of all grades, so that friend issues could be discussed outside of a normal friend group, academic concerns could be helped by more experienced schoolmates. We also promoted mental health through campaigns and awareness. We implemented "study breaks," more communication with faculty and administration, yoga work shops, meditation workshops, etc... I have experience and best practices to draw from to make a difference at CCSF quickly and effectively.
Well, in light of COVID, technology is already playing a huge role in education at CCSF. In light of this experience it is clear that CCSF needs to fix it's website, the login and class selection/ sign-up is a complete disaster. This break-down has ripple effects as to what classes are perceived as undersubscribes and thus canceled. Its also clear that CCSF needs review and improve the online experience overall. With a wealth of technology companies in the Bay Area I would like to create partnerships with several tech companies to help expand and enhance online offerings and the overall experience. I hope to to work with CCSF Foundation as well to provide technology to students where there is a deficit.
