I am a longtime wife and mother of two adult married sons. Both boys were born while I served in the US Air Force as an Education and Training Officer. I retired early so the boys would not have to change schools so soon after starting. After moving to New Hampshire near my hometown of Methuen, Mass., I served as the Assistant Coordinator for Training and Recruitment with the Division of State Police at the NH Department of Safety for two years. Then I was hired as the Apprenticeship Coordinator at the NH Department of Education. In this position I worked primarily with the evening plumbing and electrical training programs taught at seven sites across the state with over 900 students and 50 part-time instructors. After five years I moved to the Office of School Approval where my colleague and I assessed K-12 public and private schools' compliance with federal and state rules. I coordinated team visits to more than 20 public schools each year including final visit reports. Since my retirement in 2014, I have worked as a real estate agent, volunteered as a tax preparer with AARP, served on various committees with the State Employees Association and since 2022 served as a Supervisor of the Checklst in Goffstown.
  • We all have opinions and that will never change. But we must be careful to base important decisions on facts. One can believe that Moose Tracks ice cream is the best flavor of all and that's okay because that opinion doesn't impact anyone else except the vendor who may not have it on hand. However, when a legislator must vote on a bill, it is imperative to research and understand the key facts related to that bill. This requires one to verify the legitimacy of the source of the facts. Is the source neutral or will the source benefit from the passing or defeat of the bill? As a legislator I will do my best to research the facts related to a bill and vote according to how the bill helps all Granite Staters.
  • Besides the issue of opinions versus facts, another issue which will come up often in the legislature is fairness or unbiased or equitable treatment. Is it fair for retired, elderly homeowners to pay rising property taxes for schools when they have no children or grandchildren in those schools? Is it fair for women to be paid less than men when both are doing the same job? Is it fair that when a union negotiates with management for all workers, then all the workers should contribute to the costs of such negotiations? Whether the bill impacts a public or private entity, I hope in these cases, I can base my vote on facts and the impact of the decision on all Granite Staters.
  • As a NH state legislator I promise to:

    - listen to the people with opinions and those with facts; - consider all aspects of a bill and work to reduce any negative impact it may have on any section of our people or our economy; and

    - communicate with my constituents regarding their concerns and their input on bills that affect them.
I believe the state of New Hampshire can and should provide more funds to cities and towns for public education. These funds should come from Business Profit Taxes on large corporations such as Walmart and Irving. Goffstown is one of the six school districts in 2022 which doesn't offer full kindergarten.
I believe the state should not be giving public funds to families for homeschooling or private or religious schools unless there is a well documented record showing the student has problems in the public school which might be reduced at a private school.
Integrity. Empathy. Willingness to ask tough questions.
Willing to listen to both sides of an issue. Willing to research facts vs opinions. Ask questions if something isn't clear or understood.
I remember getting off the school bus and learning that JFK had been assasinated. I was about 9 yrs old.
Besides babysitting the neighbor's 2 boys over one summer, I worked the counter at a local bakery for about 2 years during the summer and maybe on weekends.
If the number of seniors increases as it most likely will, there is a danger that NH will lack sufficient caregivers, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. At the same time, without sufficient workers, it will be more difficult to staff child care centers which will impact staffing elsewhere.
Yes. Communication with others to understand their point of view is absolutely beneficial to both sides.
In NH having 400 House members and 24 Senators decide the use of emergency powers is not feasible. Best to leave it to the Executive branch.
