An effort to recall Ward 1 Councilwoman Marie Strumolo in Belleville, New Jersey from her position was launched in July 2014.[1] As of December 2015, this recall effort appeared to be abandoned and Ballotpedia discontinued active coverage. Please contact us if new developments occur with this recall effort.


Three resident from Strumolo's ward, known as the "Committee to Recall Marie Strumolo Burke from the Office of Councilmember from the First Ward" targeted Burke over her alleged use of a racial slur against African-Americans recorded on another councilmember's answer machine.[1]

The committee filed their petition on July 22, 2014. Supporters had 160 days to gather signatures equaling 25% of the voters in the most recent Ward 1 election.[1]
