Rickley has worked as a nurse for over 40 years. For 12 years she was the nurse at Omaha South High School.[3]

The election in Omaha featured four seats up for general election on November 4, 2014. There was no primary election. Subdistrict 2 incumbent Marque A. Snow, Subdistrict 4 incumbent Justin T. Wayne and Subdistrict 6 incumbent Matt Scanlan ran unopposed. Subdistrict 8 incumbent Lacey Merica faced challenger Marilyn Rickley.
