Marisa Shaaban is an advocate and policy professional who has lived in Center City with her family for the past 15 years. She and her husband are raising their kids in a neighborhood and city that they love, and their children attend Philly public schools.

Marisa is running in the Democratic primary to represent all of the people of Philadelphia's 182nd District in the Pennsylvania House. Her campaign is focused on making the improvements that the residents of the 182nd District deserve from Harrisburg, including fully funded public education for all of our children, access to affordable health care, and a healthy environment through investments in efficient, reliable public transportation. Marisa is a fierce advocate for reproductive rights, and she will continually fight for a woman's right to choose. She is looking forward to joining a growing movement of progressive women leaders in Harrisburg.

Committed to reinvigorating the spirit of public service in the 182nd, Marisa will establish a robust constituent services program, be consistently present in the district, and actively listen to community members. Marisa is building a grassroots effort to unite the community, improve the lives of Philadelphians, and provide a fresh voice in Harrisburg to stand up for our shared Democratic values.
  • Comittment: Marisa is committed to serving the constituents of the 182nd district and reinvigorating the spirit of public service.
  • Community: Marisa will work to unite the community by being consistently present in the district and actively listen to community members.
  • Compassion: Marisa is a fierce advocate for public education, affordable healthcare and women's rights.
Public education - Marisa will be a consistent, vocal, and tireless advocate for all of our kids. As a mom of children in Philadelphia public schools, Marisa knows firsthand that it's past time to invest in our schools and make up for years of empty promises to students, teachers, and parents. We must not be complacent with the current situation of drastically underfunded, unhealthy, and overcrowded classrooms. All of our children-regardless of zip code-deserve a fair chance to succeed. We're failing our children if we don't fight harder to get them the resources they deserve.

Environment - Few states are as vulnerable as Pennsylvania when it comes to climate change. Projections indicate that a good part of the coastal United States will be underwater by 2100, including parts of Philadelphia. Marisa knows that climate change must be dealt with immediately and that our government must be a better steward of our land and water.

Healthcare - Marisa believes health care is a right, not a privilege. She will work to protect Medicaid expansion in the state which has already provided coverage for more than 750,000 Pennsylvanians. Marisa knows that we cannot continue to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, cut Medicaid, and limit patient choice, and expect Pennsylvanians to thrive. As a legislator, she'll fight back against Republicans and others who are trying to take away health care access for individuals with pre-existing conditions.
