Mark Baker serves as counsel for Mercury Public Affairs and is an attorney and a managing partner with law firm Anderson, Baker & Swanson in Helena, Montana. Baker was the Montana campaign chair for Republican Marco Rubio's 2016 presidential campaign.

Career

From 1999 to 2013, Mark Baker served as counsel for the Montana-based Denny Miller Associates, a government relations consulting firm.[1] Baker specialized in telecom, defense, health care and natural resources issues.[2] At the same time, Baker also served as legislative director and counsel to U.S. Senator Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) and as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Rick Hill (R-Mont.)[2]

In 1999, Baker also co-founded Anderson, Baker & Swanson, a law firm based in Helena, Montana. Baker's firm is still active and Baker serves as managing partner.[1]

Baker helped to raise money in Montana for the George W. Bush's 2004 presidential campaign.[3]

In 2008 and 2012, Baker served as Montana state finance chairman for Mitt Romney's presidential campaigns and also served on the financial committee for the Romney for President campaign.Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag[4]

In 2013, Baker was named one of the top 500 influencers by Campaigns and Elections magazine, which described Baker as the "top Republican fundraiser in the state."[5]

Baker joined Mercury Public Affairs as counsel In 2014. As of 2015, Baker is still with the Washington, D.C.-based political strategy and consulting firm.[2]

As of 2015, Baker was a member of the National Finance Committee for the National Republican Congressional Committee, on the board of advisors for GCS Holdings, Inc., and was on the board for the Montana Taxpayers Association and Treasure State Resource Industry Association.[2]

Presidential election, 2016

In August 2015, Baker was appointed Marco Rubio's 2016 presidential campaign chairman in Montana.[6][7]

Rubio suspended his presidential campaign on March 15, 2016.[8]
