Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as a race to watch. It was previously rated as a battleground, but due to court-ordered redistricting, the seat became much more Democratic. Incumbent David Jolly (R) sought re-election in 2016. He initially planned to pursue a U.S. Senate bid, but he dropped out of the race in preparation for incumbent Marco Rubio's entry. Jolly was defeated by former Governor Charlie Crist (D) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Jolly defeated Mark Bircher in the Republican primary on August 30, 2016.[5][6][7][8][1][2]

  • National Security: I will ensure our military is strong, properly equipped and prepared to protect the American people from all threats.

  • Limited Government: I oppose federal overregulation and intrusion into state sovereignty, including Obamacare and Common Core.
  • Fiscal Conservatism: I oppose irresponsible Congressional overspending, unsustainable debt creation and over taxation that suppress local job creation and restricts our economic growth.
  • Illegal Immigration: I stand firmly against Amnesty and will take all necessary measures to secure our borders and stop the entry of those who would harm America.
