Mark Crawford (North Carolina)
Mark Crawford (Republican Party) ran for election to the North Carolina State Senate to represent District 46. He lost in the Republican primary on May 17, 2022.
Biography
Crawford earned his B.S. from the United States Military Academy, West Point in 1982 and his M.A. from the University of Florida in 1994. His professional experience includes working as a realtor for Coldwell Banker Harrell & Associates. He served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1992. He has served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army reserves since 1992.[1]

Four of the seven seats on the Buncombe County Schools school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. One seat was elected at large and the other three by district. Three newcomers filed for the open at-large seat: Matt Kern, Donna Pate, and Amy Wamsley. Pate won the at-large seat. North Buncombe District incumbent Ann Franklin filed for re-election unopposed and won another term on the board. Four newcomers vied for the open Owen District seat: Robert Chilmonik, Margaret (Peggy) Buchanan, Mark Siler, and Mark Crawford, with Buchanan winning the seat. Finally, two filed for the Roberson District seat: incumbent Amy Churchill faced Laura Bowen. Churchill succeeded in defending her seat against Bowen. There was no primary.[2][3]

Funding
Crawford did not report any contributions or expenditures to the Buncombe County Board of Elections as of November 1, 2016.[4]
School board candidates in North Carolina were required to file campaign finance reports to their county's board of elections unless the candidate:
(1) Did not receive more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) in contributions, and
(2) Did not receive more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) in loans, and
(3) Did not spend more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).[5]
The third quarter campaign finance deadline was October 31, 2016, and the fourth quarter deadline was January 11, 2017.[6]

Elections for the North Carolina State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 6, 2014. The general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 28, 2014. Mark Crawford defeated R.L. Clark and Clarence Young in the Republican primary, while incumbent Terry Van Duyn was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Van Duyn defeated Crawford in the general election.[7][8]

2012
Crawford ran for North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2012. He lost against Richard Alexander, Ray Martin, David Scholl and John Tedesco in the Republican primary on May 8.[9] Incumbent June Atkinson was unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.
