Campaign themes
2017
Di Carlo's campaign fundraising page said, "Our most basic city services have so deteriorated that we now have serious public safety issues: Extremely dangerous driving conditions caused by unsafe streets and negligent drivers. Contaminated water, caused by the cities negligence. Ignoring mosquito and animal and pest control."[9]
In response to a question from KRIS-TV about his campaign priorities, Di Carlo said, "My priorities obviously would be, in part, water and streets. We have a failed water system, I believe, based upon objective factors like the number of water boils that we have. The questions that I just stated need to be asked, and there need to be intelligent, simple reports issued to the people regarding what the costs will be. The street issues - obviously the streets have undergone a number of repairs, but the streets are still in bad shape. I don't know, again, that we have intelligent answers regarding the problem."[10]
Di Carlo also emphasized transparency and good government issues in a Facebook post declining a private meeting with the editorial board of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, saying, "my candidacy is based in part upon the improvement of government by the revelation of certain items including those not apparently included in the budget; what is commonly referred to as 'transparency'. For example, at minimum the amount that each Department Director earns, if not what every employee in the city earns should be submitted in an addendum on-line. Another obvious example would be the amount paid by the City yearly to Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau and other such organizations. I also favor reports made to citizens, in particular, regarding crises events such as water contamination events. Of course, I am concerned also that open records requests to the City may not being honored in good faith by the city."[11]
