Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on June 3, 2014, receiving 63.8 percent of the vote. He competed against Holly K. Glenn, Joseph C. Champouillon, and Randy L. Rodriguez.
General: He defeated Michael R. Wells in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 69.3 percent of the vote.
