Mark Friedlander was a judge of the New York Supreme Court 12th Judicial District. He assumed office in 2004.

Education

Friedlander received his B.A. degree from Brooklyn College (of the City University of New York) in 1965 and his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School in 1968. He later earned an LL.M. degree from the New York University Law School in 1974.[1]

Career

Friedlander began his career in 1969 as a U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General (JAG) Captain. He worked in this capacity until 1973, when he joined the Air Force Reserve. He served in the Reserves until 1998.

Friedlander joined the Office of Court Administration in 1973 and worked as the Assistant Director of Administration for the 2nd Department until 1976. In 1974 and 1975, Friedlander taught court management as an adjunct lecturer at St. Francis College. He also worked as an adjunct professor of business law at Lehman College (C.U.N.Y.) from 1974 to 1982. From 1976 to 1981, he was an attorney with the law firm of Herzfeld & Rubin, P.C. He then worked as a New York tax commissioner until 1987 and then as an associate commissioner of tax and finance until 1989. That year, he became the President and Commissioner of the New York City Tax Appeals Tribunal. He held this position through 2003, after which, he was elected to the Supreme Court.[1]
