Mark Hammond (Republican Party) is the South Carolina Secretary of State. He assumed office in 2003. His current term ends on January 13, 2027.
Hammond (Republican Party) ran for re-election for South Carolina Secretary of State. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Biography
Mark Hammond graduated from Dorman High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Newberry College in 1986 and a graduate degree from Clemson University in 1988. Shortly after graduating from school, Hammond took up the position of juvenile probation officer for the South Carolina Department of Youth Services. From 1990 to 1996, he served as a criminal investigator for the Spartanburg County, South Carolina-based 7th Judicial Circuit solicitor’s office.[1] Hammond was elected in 1996 as the clerk of courts for the county of Spartanburg, the first time a Republican had held the position since Reconstruction. He left the position in 2002.[1]

2014
Hammond ran for re-election in 2014. Hammond won the Republican nomination in the unopposed primary on June 10 and won a fourth term as secretary of state in the general election on November 4, 2014.[2]

Race background
Republican incumbent Mark Hammond was first elected to the office of South Carolina secretary of state in 2002 and sought re-election again in 2014. Hammond and his opponent, Democratic nonprofit consultant Ginny Deerin, were unopposed in the primary.
Endorsements
In 2014, Hammond received endorsements from Citizens for Life and the South Carolina Association of Realtors prior to the general election.[3] Hammond's opponent, Ginny Deerin, received an endorsement from the South Carolina Club for Growth in September 2014, making her the first Democrat to receive the group's endorsement in a statewide race.[3]

On November 2, 2010, Mark Hammond won re-election to the office of South Carolina Secretary of State. He defeated Marjorie Johnson in the general election.
