Primary: He was successful in the primary on May 20, 2014, receiving 20.0 percent of the vote. He competed against Danny Kang and Deana McDonald.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 30.2 percent of the vote. He competed against Deana McDonald.

Gaston received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his J.D. degree from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University.[3]
Career
At the time of his candidacy, Gaston worked as an attorney in private practice in Louisville, Kentucky.[4]
