Mark Johnston (b. September 21, 1962) is a former Republican member of the South Dakota State Senate, representing District 12. Johnston was elected to the South Dakota State Senate in 2010. He resigned to take a job as Vice President of Health Policy with Sanford Health, effective May 31, 2013.[1] Governor Dennis Daugaard appointed R. Blake Curd to fill the vacant seat.[2]

Biography

Johnston has served in the South Dakota Army National Guard. He has also worked as Press Secretary for the South Dakota Governor's office. During his tenure, he was the Vice President of Administration and Corporate Communication for Sanford and MeritCare Health System.

Johnston earned his B.S. in business administration from Northwest Missouri State University.[3]

Johnston won re-election in the 2012 election for South Dakota State Senate District 12. Johnston defeated Scott Bartlett in the Republican primary on June 5 and defeated Kent Alberty (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5]
