Campaign themes

2014

Lauretano's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Freedom of Information

  • Excerpt: "A strong advocate of transparency in government, Mark opposes the continued attempts by the current General Assembly and Gov. Malloy to further restrict the Public’s Right to Know. He will work to prevent further encroachments on FOI and to roll back some of the changes that have already occurred."

Second Amendment

  • Excerpt: "Mark believes that the Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the land and that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security if a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Hospital Financial Destabilization

  • Excerpt: "We must eliminate the Hospital Provider Tax, restore adequate Medicaid payments to hospitals and better reimburse hospitals for federally mandated free medical care for the poor that is not fully funded by Congress. Rep. Brendan Sharkey’s current bill for property taxes to be levied against hospitals, with again only partial reimbursement by the state, needs to be defeated."

The Environment

  • Excerpt: "Fracking Waste Processing & Storage in CT – Mark is opposed to this."
  • Excerpt: "Housatonic River PCB Cleanup – Mark supports this long delayed cleanup moving forward as rapidly and effectively as possible. It is long-overdue."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Unfunded Mandates” usually mandate the hiring of unnecessary additional administrative personnel and waste taxpayer dollars. Local Boards of Education are the best able to determine what administrative positions are needed for their schools and what the community can afford."
