Recall reports

An effort to recall Ward 1 City Councilman Mark Legband did not qualify for the ballot in Fremont, Nebraska.[1] Organizers failed to turn in the required 574 signatures by the submission deadline.[2]

Recall organizer Rachel Tuff said that she was trying to recall Legband because he had acted disrespectfully towards other city council members. She also said that Legband had delayed terminating a contract between the city and Dodge County Humane Society for animal control services. Legband said that the delay was necessary to ensure the contract was terminated legally and to set up a new contract with FurEver Homes for animal sheltering services.[3]

Recall supporters

Resident Rachel Tuff initiated the recall petition process on April 16.[1] The recall petition alleged that Legband "failed to adequately fulfill the duties set forth in his oath of office and the provisions of the Fremont Municipal Code that require a council member to protect the public health, safety, morals and general welfare of the community."[3]

Recall opponents

Legband issued the following statement in response.[3]

Listening to opinions of my neighbors has helped me make the hard calls necessary to improve our community. ... If you have questions, reach out to me directly before signing this petition. My number is 402-720-1516. I am frustrated that the money wasted on this effort could be used for our community’s critical needs.[4]
