Schwager ran for the State House of Representatives in the 2012 elections. Schwager was unopposed in the September 11 Democratic primary and was defeated by Antonio Giarrusso (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.

Schwager was defeated by Republican Dawson Hodgson in the November 2 general election. Schwager defeated Steven Campo in the September 14 Democratic primary.[1]

2012

Schwager stated that he is a fiscal conservative. Asked about his views, he said: "I think that the reason I’m a Democrat is I believe that used correctly government can achieve economic and social goals that really improve the quality of life for citizens."[2]
