Mark Somers
Mark Somers is a judge of the Michigan 19th District Court. His current term ends on January 1, 2027.
Somers ran for re-election for judge of the Michigan 19th District Court. He won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Somers was elected to the court on November 5, 2002, and re-elected in November 2008.[1][2] Somers was re-elected on November 4, 2014, for another six-year term.[3]
Biography
Education
Somers received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and his J.D. degree from the Wayne State University Law School.[1]
Career
Before he became a judge, Somers worked as an attorney in general practice for almost twenty years.[1]

The primary election was canceled. Incumbent Mark Somers advanced from the primary for Michigan 19th District Court.

Somers ran for re-election to the 19th District Court.
General: He defeated Tony Guerriero in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 50.2 percent of the vote.

2012
Somers ran for a seat on the 3rd Circuit Court. He was one of eleven judicial candidates competing for three positions in the primary election on August 7, 2012. He was defeated in the primary, receiving 6.04% of the vote.[4][5]

Bar association ratings
The Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association rated candidates running for judicial office in 2012. Candidates were given one of five ratings: Outstanding, Well Qualified, Qualified, Not Qualified or No Rating.
Somers was rated as Not Qualified.[6]
There was some criticism about this year's candidate ratings. In response, Judge Somers said:
“ | I think I've been unfairly maligned in the litigation and the interviewers asked me about it.[7][8] | ” |
