Mark flew in the US Air Force and for a major airline. He has dedicated himself to service to his country and community.

After 9/11, Mark was one of the first pilots to sign up to become a Federal Flight Deck Officer to ensure the safety of the operation.

On his days off Mark served on numerous boards and commissions covering everything from education, to the arts, to acting as a Guardian ad Litem and mentor for children at risk. In 2022 he was named "mentor of the year," in Pinellas County, for his 30 years helping children.

Mark has always worked to protect the rights of all citizens regardless of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or economic status. He believes in the strength of a vibrant democracy and took an oath 45 years ago to protect the nation from "all enemies foreign and domestic."

  • Protecting Democracy and the rights of all citizens.
  • Guaranteeing the freedom of all citizens to choose who they love and women to have unencumbered access to all reproductive healthcare options.
  • Return the US to the world stage as a beacon of freedom and justice by reassuring our allies we are committed for the long run.
Mark believes that the job of good government is to protect the most vulnerable in society and not to enrich the most privileged. No American citizen should feel as if they are forgotten. The strength of our nation rests in our ability to celebrate what unites us and not allow others to divide us with hateful messages.

Policy issues include:
- Protection for women to choose their reproductive options.
- Protecting members of the LGBTAI+ community.
- Working towards solutions for affordable housing.
- Universal pre-K.
- Providing the best possible resources for Veterans.
- Banning assault weapons and extended magazines.

- Develop pathways for students to afford higher education.
"Mr Smith Goes to Washington," directed by Frank Capra still holds up well. It is the story of a naive young man who is appointed to the Senate and faces personal and political challenges. Released in 1939 it showed how good people can stand up to fascism.

When Germany occupied France they allowed the movie theaters to show whatever they wanted until a date certain when only Nazi propaganda films could be shown. In many theaters, "Mr Smith Goes to Washington" was played continuously until the cutoff date.
Honesty, integrity, and the willingness to listen. No one person can be right all the time. As an airline captain I would always solicit feedback from other crew members in critical situations. Ego can get in the way of being receptive to valuable information.

Presidents like Lincoln and Clinton deliberately selected cabinet members that they knew would disagree with them. It is very important that elected officials listen to all sides before making a decision. Ultimately, it is that elected official that will have the final word. It is manifestly important that in coming to a decision the focus remains on what is best for the people.

An elected official should be very clear about where they stand on issues and be ready to support why they have come to that decision.
I am an excellent listener and communicator. As a mentor (for over 30 years) I understand that letting children know they are being heard is the most powerful tool in giving them self-esteem and hope. Being heard remains important through our adult years as well. My commitment is to always listen to my constituency.

In my capacity as a TV aviation expert I explain many complicated aspects of the industry to the general public. Being able to communicate effectively closes the feedback loop when people want to be heard.

A Congressman should always remember that they are a representative of the people. In that capacity they have to put the welfare of the people over personal agendas.

My legacy is my children and grandchild. It is of the utmost importance that the United States remains a bastion of democracy and affords all citizens the rights granted in the Constitution.
The assassination of JFK. I was six years old and I recall how there was an incredible sadness everywhere with everyone. I watched the funeral train on live TV and while I didn't have full comprehension I knew, at the time, that this would be an historical tragedy.
I was a dishwasher at a restaurant on Long Island. The job lasted several seasons because I remember riding my bicycle in the heat of summer and in the snow during the winter.
One specific copy of "The Giving Tree." It is the same book I read to my children that my granddaughter now reads to me.
Gandalf. He is both informed by wisdom and simultaneously capable of standing up for what is right.
"All You Need is Love," by the Beatles
My current struggle is with the atmosphere of hatred and anger. Everything else has been more of a challenge than a struggle.

The makeup of the House of Representatives more accurately reflects the population of the United States. In that capacity there is a greater opportunity to prioritize what the nation truly wants.
Experience is always a benefit. More importantly, politicians need to remember that their job is to do good work for their constituents. Some people have a natural talent for working with others to a shared goal. Unfortunately, there are others that, regardless of experience, will never know how to play well with others.
Jamie Raskin for his passion and dedication to service despite personal challenges.
Liz Cheney for her unfaltering defense of Democracy and the Constitution (despite our many policy differences).
Stories from Veteran's needing help, children dealing with unimaginable obstacles, and families just trying to get by all touch my heart. It is my desire to help them that inspired me to run for Congress.
Compromise is not surrender or a sign of weakness. I have always enjoyed the process of working with intelligent people that see things differently than I do. I believe I can learn something from everybody. It is a great feeling when others reciprocate that and, as a result, the people are served.
Responsibly and not for "sound bites" or fundraising purposes.
