Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Baringer's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Social Security: I believe Social Security is a covenant between the people of each generation. From the preceding Congress to the present. That the children of tax paying Americans would not be left penniless should they become orphans, nor would the aged or disabled. I believe Social Security is a rock in the tempestuous stock market upon which all can depend, and the more fortunate can build. For four generations this humane system has guaranteed the dignity of a few years rest after a life time of toil for even our lowest paid countrymen.
  • Immigration: I know we Americans are proud and protective of our citizenship. I believe the value we place on being Americans is under appreciated by those who govern. Uncontrolled immigration devalues U.S. Citizenship and is presenting in lower wages and a shrinking middle class.
  • Wall Street Reform: The practice of high speed computer trading on Wall Street, where stocks are sold hundreds and hundreds of times a minute and an investment last a fraction of a second, programs written to skim billions of dollars off the market and out of 401ks, needs to be ended for the security of the market and the country.
  • Trade: NAFTA has dissolved all the barriers that protected American wages. I have been in the factories of Mexico filled with the finest equipment and worker making 2 to 3 dollars an hour. The American worker cannot and should not be forced to compete in this race to zero, to poverty. Yet Congress has passed laws and approved treaties that encourage companies to do just that.
