Marla J. Miller is a judge for Division 2 of the California 1st District Court of Appeal. She assumed office in 2014. Her current term ends on January 6, 2031.

She was appointed to the court by Governor Jerry Brown on November 12, 2014, to replace retired Justice Paul Haerle.[1] Her appointment was confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments on December 10, 2014.[2]

Education

Miller received her bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1976 and her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1980.[3]

Career

Miller clerked for Judge Charles M. Merrill of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit after law school. She later served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California and as chief assistant district attorney in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. Miller was also a director at the law firm of Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Robertson & Falk and a partner with Morrison & Foerster LLP. In 2005, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Miller to the San Francisco County Superior Court. Miller was appointed to the First District Court of Appeal in 2014. [4]
