I know what it means to get things done. I’m a small town mayor running to bring local, commonsense perspectives to Olympia–moving beyond political parties to make state government reflect our values and priorities. With your vote, I will make sure your voices are heard.”
  • As a longtime renter and now homeowner, Marla knows we must encourage all types of housing to reduce costs, with policies that support local decision making. The affordability crunch is about more than housing; the cost of groceries and other necessities are hurting families. Marla knows how to cut costs and use tax dollars responsibly.
  • As Mayor, Marla was instrumental in securing nearly $300M in state and federal funding to build a new bridge to replace the 100-year old Hood River White Salmon Bridge. Building on her leadership to rebuild the HRWS Bridge, Marla will help deliver resources for safe roads and bridges, transit connectivity, and broadband and water infrastructure.
  • A mom of two young children, Marla understands the struggle to find reliable, affordable childcare. She will expand programs that provide quality care and workforce support. She has also seen how this issue is part of resilient economic development. When parents do not have a stable, safe, and affordable place to take their children while they work, they're forced to miss shifts and lose income. The inability to quality, affordable childcare is also one of the biggest factors limiting women in the workplace.
As a Mayor, I have worked to create real change to increase access to affordable housing, invest in public safety, and fund overdue infrastructure projects. In addition to these issues, I am also passionate about healthcare access for all and protecting women's access to reproductive healthcare. Representing a district that is prone to wildfire, I also want to enact policies that ensure firefighting and recovery aren't an unfair burden on private property owners and local governments.

Effective elected officials must listen more than they talk, be humble in their service by recognizing they work for the people, and have integrity.
I am a strong communicator, and believe we need to work harder to connect with each other and explain complex issues in terms and references that empower people to want to be informed and engaged in the process of governing.
To represent the interests of the communities and residents of the district, be proactive in anticipating needs when it comes to formation of policy, willing to find common ground in order to move the needle on key issue areas, and accessible to the people you are working for.
I want to know that the work I've done during my time as a public servant has improved the lives of others.
