Marla Kirkland is the Trustee Area 1 representative on the Val Verde Unified Board of Education in California. She was first elected to the board on November 6, 2012.[1] Kirkland won re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016.[2]

Two of the five seats on the Val Verde Unified School District Board of Education were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. In her bid for re-election to Trustee Area 1, incumbent Marla Kirkland defeated challenger Alesia Nesie Fuller. The race for the open Trustee Area 2 seat featured candidates Nina Ramos Hiers and Matthew Serafín, and Serafín won the election.[3][4]
