Biography
Sparks Sr.'s professional experience includes serving as a youth advocate, family and outreach pastor, and a student intervention specialist. He is also a U.S. Air Force veteran. Sparks Sr. attended Columbia Basin College and he earned his associate degree from the Community College of the Air Force. He graduated from Pasco High School.[1]

Three of the five seats on the Pasco School District school board in Washington were up for by-district general election on November 7, 2017. All three incumbents filed for re-election, and all three won additional terms on the board. A primary election for Positions 3 and 5 was held on August 1, 2017, because more than two candidates filed for each seat.
In the primary, Position 3 board member Steven A. Christensen and challenger Brian Griffith defeated Debi Maxwell, and Position 5 member Amy L. Phillips and challenger Jeffrey Peterson defeated Marlando Sparks Sr. The two winners from each race faced each other in the general. Position 4 member Sherry Lancon vied for her seat with challenger Erin Lewis in the general.[2]

“ | I grew up in Pasco and attended Pasco schools. My wife and I have 10 children, 5 biological and 5 adopted through foster care. 3 of my children graduated from PHS, 7 are currently attending Pasco Schools. I have a vested interest in the success for all of the students in our district.
My desire to serve on the school board is based on my passion to see every child in our district succeed. Every decision I make will be student centered understanding the lives of future leaders, innovators, and history makers are at stake – all students matter. Pasco schools should find strength in its diversity. My goal is to empower the voices of everyone in our community, and encourage them to share their creative, innovative, out-of-the-box ideas. We are better when we join together to ensure the positive advancement for our students. Collaboration with our stakeholders most importantly parents, will be vital to our students’ success. The greatest resource of school districts is its exceptional staff. All staff members play an extremely important, irreplaceable role in the success of every student.
