Issues
Pay for college basketball and football players
In advance of the 2014 legislative session, Kimpson filed a bill in the South Carolina State Senate requiring Clemson University and the University of South Carolina (SC) to pay its basketball and football players on the basis that they are the main revenue-producing sports at both universities. "It's time for the 21st Century athlete to be compensated for the risk of injury, which could result in a loss of career, and the substantial revenues that they generate for the colleges and universities," State Senator Kimpson told reporters. Kimpson's proposed law would require that players be paid $2,500 per semester. The figure is based on work-study job paid at $7.50 per hour for 20 hours per week. Additionally, each student athlete would have a trust fund set up in their name that would be released to the student only if they take a financial literacy course and graduate from the university. The trust fund include $5,000 per year and up to $25,000 in total for an athlete who is at the school for five years, with his first year as a redshirt. Steve Spurrier, head coach of the SC football team, has publicly supported paying student athletes.[2]

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
